What I'm loving this month...

So, although I'm off of make-up for the time being (see previous post) that doesn't mean I don't still have things to post about! Make no mistake, I'm definitely not 'off' make-up in the "I don't like it anymore" sense, that'll be the day, I've decided I'm gonna begin reviewing products I've had for a while and maybe even start making a few tutorial/review videos, watch this space.

Anyway, I did originally market this blog as a fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog, I've only blogged the beauty part so far and have entirely ignored the lifestyle element so...without further ado, here are some non-beauty things I'm loving this month!

Gangster films

This isn't something that I'm loving strictly this month only, I'll always have time for a good gangster movie! This is largely because I've always loved the way that Gangsters are portrayed in films, if you don't get a quarter of the way through Goodfellas and feel an overwhelming urge to join the Mafia then...well, you're probably more sensible than I am.

Goodfellas is probably one of my all time favourite films, more on that later. What began this recent Gangster-movie-takeover though was that I'd finally gotten around to watching Gangster Squad and I actually really enjoyed it! Granted, it's not in the same caliber as Coppola's The Godfather or Scorsese's Goodfellas but, in truth, I really don't think it was ever intended to be - I don't think any self respecting Producer and/or Director would be daft enough to even try and compete with those two because they're both flagship Gangster films. If you can take Gangster Squad at face value and not try to over-analyse it or pick flaws in it then you'll be left highly entertained.

Of course, watching Gangster Squad set the ball rolling for me and I rewatched Goodfellas, my favourite Gangster movie! Which then brought me to The Godfather, again. I'd watched The Godfather before when I was much younger and, truthfully, too young to fully understand it so was left bored, as a young girl with the attention span of a flea it was impossible for me to sit through a 3 hour film fidget-free. Obviously it's a classic, so it'd be daft for me to say "hey, watch this film!" considering it came out over 30 years ago, but if you ever find yourself with 9 hours to spare, watching The Godfather trilogy will be a good use of your time!

I also watched Taxi Driver, for the first time during this Gangster film binge of mine - Taxi Driver isn't a Gangster film, as such, it does involve Gangsters of sorts, but...Robert De'Niro, enough said.

Melodic Hardcore

This entire post is likely to be lost on the beauty-blogging community as it's a far cry from pink and pretty girl world, but I've never been a girly girl - I was climbing trees and watching The World Cup when other girls my age were dancing to The Spice Girls (I did love The Spice Girls as well, though) but to hell with it, there's bound to be someone who comes across this post who can appreciate it, right? Hopefully...

Anyway, I got into 'alternative' music when I was 11 and discovered Green Day (har-har, I don't care they'll always be one of my favourite bands) and it wasn't long before I'd moved on to metal and hardcore, upon reserving space on my Ipod for the likes of UnderOATH and Norma Jean. This love affair with heavy music has lasted my entire teenage years but, recently, I'd fallen out of love with it and went racing off in an entirely different direction by dedicating my time to oldschool Plan B, The Streets and Caxton Press. Needless to say, my usual favourites (UnderOATH, While She Sleeps, Counterparts, etc etc) were put on the back burner and got barely a listen. And I think it was a really good thing! I now have a completely different appreciation of the music I used to listen to and have realised that, even though dipping my toes into the world of Hip Hop was something I enjoyed, metal and hardcore will always be where it's at for me.

My current favourites are Being As An Ocean and I literally cannot stop listening to their album, I'm kind of late to the party with this album considering it came out last year. But I'm still in fear of listening to Dear G-D so much that I'll end up hating it...

Cage Diving

Number one on my bucket-list? Go diving with Great White sharks. This has been on my 'to do before I die' list for as long as I can remember, in my opinion there is nothing in this world that could possibly compare to being face to face with an animal as magnificent as the Great White, I'm sure that those unlucky few who have done so without the safety of a cage will disagree with me, but I'll definitely be in a cage.

My favourite wild animal has always been the shark - all species, big and small, fascinate me. Since I was old enough to read I was buying books about sharks and watching shark documentaries, shark films and looking at pictures of sharks, I just love sharks. In case you hadn't gathered that by now.

My parents and my friends think I'm crazy, but what's really got me all excited about the prospect of diving with sharks is that I'm actually at a place in my life now where I can realistically begin thinking about it and I have; I've begun the mental work of fulfilling this almost-lifelong dream and am about to start the slow saving up process in order to achieve this. Going cage diving with Great White sharks costs upward of £2,000 for a 5 day excursion so it's gonna be a fair few years yet until I'm financially able to, literally, take the plunge. But it will happen and I'm already super excited!

Those are the 3 main things that have had me talking this month, I might make a post like this a regular thing, I'm not sure yet but watch this space.
